Foreclosing On Teh American Dream

TehouseThey’re called “prairie palaces” around here.  The early adapters took their profits from ocean view tract homes in SoCal, and in the fields of Colorado, parlayed them into conspicuous, 4,000 square foot symbols of their success.

teheatLike so many other dreams around the country, this particular palace has fallen on hard times.  Times such as these can produce bitterness at the sudden change in fortune.  Enough so to make you remove the fireplaces, mantles, and light fixtures. . .

Tehstove. . .the stove, refrigerator, and all the cabinets. . .

tehsink. . .even the kitchen sink.

And in the disillusionment that washes you fresh and clean for the next dream, something always gets lost. A white rabbit stares up at the master bath ceiling, wondering nothing, abandoned and left behind, just a synaptic memory hibernating in the mind of a child.

Jesus portrayed the profound surety of the God-knowing mortal when he said: “To a God-knowing kingdom believer, what does it matter if all things earthly crash?” Temporal securities are vulnerable, but spiritual sureties are impregnable. When the flood tides of human adversity, selfishness, cruelty, hate, malice, and jealousy beat about the mortal soul, you may rest in the assurance that there is one inner bastion, the citadel of the spirit, which is absolutely unassailable;  at least this is true of every human being who has dedicated the keeping  of his soul to the indwelling spirit of the eternal God.

  1. hi nonnie,
i think a portion of those folks probably paid cash for their house; and everything else they might have wanted— for awhile. since most all of life’s lessons seem to offer a few insights for the intelligent monkeys to grok, mistakes then— every one of them— are indispensable tools for personal growth.

and there’s a whole lotta change goin’ on; society is rapidly becoming polarized around the traditional, dying and inferior values of the past, and the progressive living, and superior values of the future. but what do you do? drag 30 million ditto heads kicking and teabagging into the horrors of global socialism— which has yet to be defined by anyone, except fux news; who thinks the UN will soon be telling you when and if you can “spank” your children.
    Uh, yeah. you do drag’em.
if Obama is half the change agent he campaigned as, we’re in for a dramatic, difficult, and challenging ride, but one that offers us a chance to shape our destiny; as individuals, and as a nation among nations. precisely what must change if we are to actually become the America of our collective dream; the best world we can all afford to live in, in peace.

  2. it always amazes me that people would rather make payments for the rest of their lives than settle for what they can comfortably pay for and not worry about. whoever built that huge house could probably have downscaled to a smaller more affordable house and still be there today. i feel more sorry for people who bought homes they really could afford and then got sideswiped by medical bills or downsizing in companies where they worked for years.
