Appearing with Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman at an event in New Jersey, McCain tried to clarify a statement he made on “The Daily Show” on Wednesday night, in which he alleged that Hamas approves of Obama:
It’s very obvious to everyone that Sen. Obama shares nothing of the values or goals of Hamas, which is a terrorist organization … But it’s also fact that a spokesperson from Hamas said that he approves of Obama’s candidacy. I think that’s of interest to the American people.
And the Senator is right. Just what does a member of Hamas see in Barack Obama? A real Leader? Yes, I see that, too. Go Onnnnn . . . They’re— Hammas and Obama— both brown? He thinks Obama might be a man he could talk with?
Maybe they think he could be enough of a leader to actually insist on a fair and just settlement of the Israeli Palestinian conflict, and stop the protracted and intractable state of war between two supposedly civilized peoples. Civilized people find peaceful solutions to resolve their differences. Uncivilized people continue killing each other until a greater power intervenes.
McCain and Lieberman are shallow philosophical thinkers, and it simply would not occur to either one of them that political leadership must be able to perceive the nuance of positive over negative; that the positive always has the advantage over the negative approach. So they pander to teh stupid. It’s quite logical for negative leadership to suggest that Hammas would only approve of someone because they are “weak on terror” or some other such Republican nonsense rooted in fear.
So yes; it is of interest to the American people to observe, that a member of a democratically elected “terrorist organization” knows when someone might be willing to resolve the issue with the moral leadership of real American values. Hopefully, Obama realizes the global community is affected by the failure of the Israelis and Palestinians to find peace, and the global community has the right to intervene to stop the bloodshed and restore peace. In order for that to happen, the United Nations must evolve into true planetary government— with true global sovereignty.
Freedom is the gift of civilization made possible by the enforcement of LAW. If one man craves freedom— liberty— he must certainly realize that all other men long for the same freedom. No such liberty-loving peoples can live together in peace without becoming subservient to such laws, rules, and regulations as will grant each person the same degree of freedom, while at the same time safeguarding an equal degree of freedom for all others. If one man is to be absolutely free, then another must become an absolute slave. And the relative nature of freedom is true socially, economically, and politically.
World law must be honored and must be enforced by world government— the sovereignty of all mankind. Collective security will never afford peace until the collectivity includes all mankind. The political sovereignty of representative mankind government will bring lasting peace on earth, and eventually the spiritual brotherhood of man will forever insure good will among all men. There’s no other way peace on earth and good will among men can be realized.
There will be wars and rumors of wars— just as long as the world’s political sovereignty is divided up and unjustly held by a group of nation-states. Global sovereignty will prevent global wars— nothing else can.
