Matt Taibbi is becoming Sarah Palin?
Bill E. Pilgrim @ Sadly, No:
Well, let’s see. He’s articulate, hilarious (intentionally I mean) and better with words than almost anyone in journalism right now, having honed his skills working for years as a correspondent in Moscow.
She’s inarticulate to the point of entirely unintended hilarity, the worst thing to happen to the English language since Mr. Potato Head, and can see Russia from her house.
So, yes, aside from the fact that they’re entirely the opposite, they’re exactly the same!
Maybe she meant the comparison in reverse vampire fashion.
What I think is that Megan McArdle has already become the Sarah Palin of journalism; i.e., a confused conservative clown who has reached the end of her ability to even be entertaining.
REALLY? Since when has Sarah Palin delved into facts? Her paranoia is fueled by religious conviction and anti-intellectualism, which has been on the rise since Reagan. A more apt comparison to Megan McArdle’s pairing of Palin and Taibbi would be Glenn Beck. She should stop mixing up her metaphors. But what I appreciate about Matt Taibbi is that he lived in the former Soviet Union at the time of its disintegration as a global threat and world power. So I am apt to listen to his analysis of events in this country as we face the biggest financial downturn in our modern history. Regardless of whether he’s got his facts completely straight, I suspect there is some reaal subterfuge he has tapped in to.
U forgot their role in driving oil up to a record $147/bl, despite demand being way down. I remember one of their analysts predicting it would go to $200 just before the bottom fell out and settled in the mid $30s.
Nonnie,
Matt is just a messenger; and somebody would like to
killS him TFU.“Matt Taibbi’s much-discussed take down of Goldman Sachs in Rolling Stone has begun to get its share of criticism. …The most scathing critique — and one of the most cogent — comes from Megan McArdle at The Atlantic, who went so far as to compare Taibbi to Sarah Palin : “What I think, sadly, is that Matt Taibbi is becoming the Sarah Palin of journalism. He seems to deliberately eschew understanding his subjects, because only corrupt, pointy-headed financial journalists who have been co-opted by the system do that. And Matt Taibbi is here to save you from those pointy headed elites.” One of McArdle’s main arguments is that Taibbi misuses several financial terms, including collateralized debt obligations and credit default swaps. —HufPo
Wellllll exxxxxxxxccccccccsuuuuuuuuussssssseeee meeeeeeee!!
He got some terms wrong??
Todays headlines of Goldman Sachs’ billions in profits prove that Taibbi’s article was correct. He may not be right on every technicality, but his criticisms are spot on. Comparing him to Palin is just the Wall Street oligarchs striking back through little Meggie, who dresses up like Ann Rand and dreams about injecting sterility drugs into puffy progressive asses.
The trading conducted by GS borders on treason, and Matt delivered the message. So. Is it time for prosecutors to take on the mob that “raped and pillaged the mortgage industry, ruined the housing market, destroyed the credit system, endangered municipal financing, pension funds, and the banking system, sent the economy into a downward spiral, endangered the world financial system, and now extort the U.S. and the world to pay them billions in ransom, or face the destruction of the world financial system and economy”?
Don’t hold your breath. Holder is still “leaning.”
i’m not a huge fan of matt’s. i think he has a lot of promise, and i think he’s done good work, but i think he wastes too much time trying to appear cool, and it annoys me. i expect he’ll mature and get better, and we will see great things from him in the future. i’ve never heard of megan mcardle. should i care what she says?
