A call to action for all evangelists of The Urantia Papers
It has become critical, I think, to identify what opportunities can be most effective in the midst of the current multiple crises that afflict our people, our nation, and the entire world— so that we may simultaneously begin to effect the social, moral, economic, and political reorganization of the world.
Thanks to the extraordinary revelatory insight The Urantia Book provides us, we know that when human beings find God, we experience within our soul that “indescribable restlessness of triumph in discovery” that impels us to seek loving service-contact with our less illuminated fellows, to allow the “overflow of the welling-up of eternal goodness within our own souls to refresh and ennoble our fellows.”
As Urantians who have found God— reader-believers of The Urantia Book— many of us tend to apply that triumphant restlessness very logically— by trying to get the Fifth Epochal Revelation into the hands and heads of our fellows through outreach. That’s a good thing. But we must also turn our attention to the many other important teachings in The Urantia Book, to contemplate how and when they might be acted upon and implemented by us directly.
As Urantian evangelists alive today, it’s vitally important to ask ourselves: How can we bring about the spiritual transformation of present-day humanity— when our house is on fire?
Specifically, big “D” Democracy is under a direct and dangerous attack— both from inside our country and our own government, and from hostile and malevolent nations around the world. We can no longer ignore this fire; it must be dealt with.
“The survival of democracy is dependent on successful representative government; and that is conditioned upon the practice of electing to public offices only those individuals who are technically trained, intellectually competent, socially loyal, and morally fit. Only by such provisions can government of the people, by the people, and for the people be preserved.” —71:2.19. The Urantia Book
It could not be more obvious that a large part of our representative government is intentionally failing to preserve and protect those provisions of intellectual competence, social loyalty, and moral fitness.
We very well know that “the choice of base and ignorant rulers” the “glorification of mediocrity,” suffrage in the hands of an “uneducated and indolent majority,” coupled with the evil machinations of hostile nations who would destroy us, are now combining to do just that.
“…Jesus did not look with approval upon the refusal to employ force to protect the majority of any given human group against the unfair and enslaving practices of unjust minorities who may be able to entrench themselves behind political, financial, or ecclesiastical power. Shrewd, wicked, and designing men are not to be permitted to organize themselves for the exploitation and oppression of those who, because of their idealism, are not disposed to resort to force for self-protection or for the furtherance of their laudable life projects.” —173:1.11. The Urantia Book
We know that public opinion— the mores— is the basic and elemental energy in social evolution. We also know that right now, fully 70% of Americans polled feel our nation is moving in the wrong direction.
“Liberty can be enjoyed only when the will and whims of human rulers are replaced by legislative enactments in accordance with accepted fundamental law.” —The Urantia Book
We must ensure that we continue to be a nation of laws.
“The recital of the affairs of a neighboring planet was presented with the intent of “advancing civilization and augmenting governmental evolution on Urantia.” —The Urantia Book
It’s past time we start doing this.
If only our “…nation of advanced culture would only go out and bring to itself the best of the neighboring peoples and then, after educating them, send them back as emissaries of culture to their benighted brethren!” —72:12.2. The Urantia Book
We must be doing this, too.
“Urantia is therefore far better prepared for the more immediate realization of a planetary government with its laws, mechanisms, symbols, conventions, and language — all of which could contribute so mightily to the establishment of world-wide peace under law and could lead to the sometime dawning of a real age of spiritual striving; and such an age is the planetary threshold to the utopian ages of light and life.” —72:12.5. The Urantia Book
We must get about the business of building a planetary government.
“…the spiritual renaissance must await the coming of these new teachers of Jesus’ religion who will be exclusively devoted to the spiritual regeneration of men. And then will these spirit-born souls quickly supply the leadership and inspiration requisite for the social, moral, economic, and political reorganization of the world.” —195:9.4. The Urantia Book
Is that us?
