Back by popular dementia: Special Stupid: Gun Nut Edition.
Here on the World Of The Cross, gun nuts take their right to be stupid, seriously.
That is, they take their right to be seriously stupid, seriously. So a lot of right wing conservatives have their panties in a bunch over a reprised definition of “Mass shooting,” which they say is being pushed by the Left and their “media friends”— you know— not Fox News.
The most obscene incidents of gun violence usually do not make the mainstream news at all. Why? Because their definition is incorrect. The mainstream news meaning of “Mass Shooting” should more accurately be described as “Mass Murder.”
The old FBI definition of Mass Murder (not even the most recent one) is: four or more people murdered in one event. It is only logical that a Mass Shooting is four or more people shot in one event.
Here at the Mass Shooting Tracker, we count the number of people shot, rather than the number people killed, because “shooting” [should mean] “people shot.”
But this logic is lost on people who own dozens and dozens of guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition, because, hey, guns ARE for shooting people—and if you just “wing’em,” it shouldn’t count!
Last Friday, a gunman surrendered to police after an hours-long siege in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he shot to death three people and wounded nine others in a Planned Parenthood clinic. By the old standard definition, this was NOT a mass shooting. Seriously. Maybe you should ask the nine people who were fucking shot and wounded if they think it wasn’t a “mass shooting.”
SO. Next time one or more of our “Special Stupid” gun nuts becomes fatally actuated by Fux Noise propaganda and goes on a killing spree, let’s stop pretending it’s not an attempt at mass murder, just because not everyone he or she shot actually died from their gunshot wounds.
Meh.
